Speed Bubble
3-level Transmutation
Casting Time: 1 action
Range/Area: Self
Components: Verbal, Somatic, Material
Materials: a small piece of mithral (5gp) or bendalloy (1gp), which the spell consumes.
Duration: Concentration, 30 seconds
When you cast this spell, a bubble of condensed time appears centered on yourself with a range of 5 feet. Inside this bubble, time moves insanely fast, rendering the rest of the world outside of the bubble seemingly immobilized.
The borders of this bubble are visible as a fuzz or sheen that ripples in the air.
While within this bubble, creatures and objects act normally on their turns. Creatures may move around the bubble which remains in the location it was cast and does not follow the caster as they move.
Creatures outside of the bubble are 'immobilized': they will not experience the 'pausing' of time and will perceive the beginning and ending of this spell as if the events were back-to-back in time. Because of this, they will not be able to perceive the specifics of events that transpired within the Speed Bubble while it was active.
The caster may choose to end the Speed Bubble spell early on their turn (no Action Required).
If a creature within the bubble uses an ability, Attack, or Spell that would affect objects or creatures outside of the bubble, the Speed Bubble immediately ends. A creature or object within the Speed Bubble cannot exit the bubble by mundane methods.
A creature that can move at least 5 feet can use their Action while within 5ft of the Speed Bubble's edge to make a Strength Saving Throw against the caster's Spell Save DC. On a success, the creature is ejected to a space within 5 feet that is outside the Speed Bubble where time is 'paused'. A creature who does this is immobilized just as every other creature outside the Speed Bubble is.
A creature who attempts to use teleportation (or similar) magic to leave the Speed Bubble succeeds in doing so but is immediately 'immobilized' as they experience the 'pausing' of time.
If the creature casting the Speed Bubble exits the Speed Bubble, the spell ends immediately.
When the Speed Bubble ends, the resuming of time causes a jarring effect for all creatures, but less so for those inside the bubble prepared for it. Actions Held by creatures both inside and outside the Speed Bubble are lost when the spell ends. If combat has ben taking place when the Speed Bubble was cast, all creatures that can see the bubble must roll Initiative again. Creatures inside the Speed Bubble when the spell ends have advantage on this Initiative roll.
At higher levels: For every level above 3rd, the effective duration is extended by 6 seconds and the radius of the bubble is doubled.
Available for: Fighter (Eldritch Knight), Rogue (Arcane Trickster), Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
