Eigil walked through the streets of North Favuldfield, it was late and the sun was already low. He briefly wondered what day it is.
Did his parents all received news of his death, or did the pirates overtake their ship and let it sink. Helping the Sirens to their meal.
The shimmering glint of the gold, pink and turquoise caught his eye, it was such a normal thing. Seeing the sunset, but he almost died.
He had looked death in the eyes, and lived to tale the tail. Which is something not many could claim. He shock his head slightly, but since when has death beautiful sea blue eyes.
They looked so much similar to the woman with red hair. The woman who laid in bed, the one he had carried to Shellgirl's house. The one who made strange movements with her hands, while also speaking the words.
Sirens.
They where both Sirens, but why could the red one talk and Shellgirl could not.
The red one had said something about their father, so they where sisters. Which while he looked back at the situation, didn't came as a shock to him. There faces looked so much similar.
He closed his eyes and let the sun warm his face. The sweet tingling of the warmth, the scent of the salty air, loud screams of the seagulls and ally cats that fight over the latest catch. He was home, he was alive.
The marching sound of heavy boots caught his attention, and he snapped out of his wandering mind.
"By the Gods, My Prince!"
The captain of his father's guards rushed towards him, and wrapped him in a tight hug.
Eigil has known this man all his live, and he saw him more as an uncle not a simple member of staff. This man had his back during battles, at sea, or when he was in trouble with his parents. But never in his life did this man give him a hug. Which meant that something happened to the rest of the crew, or that his crew mates where able to sent word to his parents.
"Captain Axelsen, I am also glad to see you. But please tell me what did I do to deserve this warm reception."
"Shut up, you... you... I don't even have the heart to insult you."
Eigil felt a pit form in his stomach, no insults, a warm hug. This was big really big.
"I am going to bring you to your parents. I need to be there when they see your face."
Tony Axelsen let him go, turned around and shouted commands to the rest of the guard. Who looked at him, as if they have seen a ghost.
Tony slapped his hand on Eigil's shoulder and started to guide him towards the castle. During which he didn't say a word. None what so ever.
Leaving Eigil alone with his thoughts, which somehow brought him back to the woman with red hair and sea blue eyes.
He however noticed the big wooden doors opening, the marble hallways filled with art, statues and staff.
Who all stopped in shock.
The soft purple carpet under his bare feet, that was the first time he noticed that he was bare foot.

He however noticed the big wooden doors opening, the marble hallways filled with art, statues and staff.
Who all stopped in shock.
The soft purple carpet under his bare feet, that was the first time he noticed that he was bare foot.
Which made him wonder how much he looked like the walking death. He quickly looked inside the polished silver that hung inside the hallway, just before the doorway that lead towards the throne room.
It hung there so that the nobles could take a final look at themselves, making sure that they are presentable before they meet the King and Queen.
But he wanted to see how bad he looked, and if he was being honest it could have being worse. His clothes where torn, there were some cuts and brushes all over his face. There were defiantly more injuries, if he bothered to check. There only wasn't any time for that, right now.
Tony Axelsen's hand landed upon his shoulder.
"Yes, you look terrible. But lets us not delay this for much longer. There are already sharks circling around this kingdom."
Sharks, that was the nickname they used for his cousins. They where the ones who brought the priests of the New Religion to this Kingdom. Which brought a war, which North Favuldfield won by the way. But they wasn't to say that they where giving up. No this only fueled their desire to rule this kingdom even more.
So it didn't surprise him that they would swarm in, if he was no longer on the board.
Eigil turned slightly on his heels and pushed the doors of the throne room open.
"Bloody hell man, the boy isn't even dead for a day and you already here staking your claim on your brother's throne."
From all the people he expected to see, Uncle Krog was the last one.
The younger brother of his mother, was a pirate and scoundrel. But the man had a heart of gold. At least that is what his mother always told him.
He himself had only met the pirate a few times, when he was much younger.
Captain Krog, was a man with long dark brown hair, which almost looked black. Which matched his eyes. But the strangest feature on the pirate was the hook on his right hand.
"This has nothing to do with you, pirate. I don't even know why my brother even bothered to wed a deck wench. But what is being done, is done. Now we need to talk about the succession, now that her spawn is dead."
Uncle Krog's eyes darked slightly.
"And that man claims to be a gentleman, by the Gods, Uncle. Show some respect for your Queen, and my mother."
All of them turned around in shock, Uncle Krog was the first one who recovered.
"By the Gods."
His mother left there seat and rushed towards him wrapping him in a tight, yet warm hug. Her face covered with tears.
The last thing Eigil ever wanted to see, but she genuinely believed that he was dead. And now he wanted to know why she thought that.
"I am alright, mother. That stupid man, sorry, Jes Rasmussen pulled out my earplug. Which made me venerable for Sirens, and that is what happened. The men did everything they could to hold me back, but there were pirates. They didn't made the choice lightly, they had to let me go to safe everyone."
Uncle Krog snorted loudly.
"What good that did them."
He whispered under his breath, loud enough for Eigil to hear. He wanted to know what his uncle was talking about, but first he needed to work his other uncle out of the throne room.
"I am so sorry, uncle, it seems to me that you have wasted your time and efforts."
His uncle's became red, but he said nothing. Instead he marched out of the room.
"Good riddance, so now please tell me what you meant Uncle Krog?"
He looked away,
"It has two days, since you left. And this morning your uncle sailed into the harbor. He had came across floating wood. North Favuldfield's royal standard and a Jolly Roger..."
His mother stopped for a moment.
"The Sirens are getting more aggressive, it is escalating. I honestly believing that you jumping overboard saved your life."
Eigil shock his head, this couldn't be true, he had told the men to let him go. To safe themselves, and now he learned that is was for nothing. He stepped back outside his mother's reach. He wanted to curse, shout, do something he might regret later.
Those men have risked their lives for this Kingdom, for him. They have fought with him, bled with him and now they have died for what?
"Eigil, we have to discuss some pressing matters. Main thing you finding a wife that is."
"Viola, My love, it might not right time."
His father chimed in, and he was right about that.
This wasn't the right time, he was currently fighting through so many emotions, he lost track of them all.
Uncle Krog placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Give the boy a minute sister, he is here now and I think he will not be out at sea anytime soon. Not before the enchantment wears off."
The enchantment? The image of the woman with red hair popped in his head.
The Siren song.
"I need to wash up. I will joining you for dinner later."
He stepped backwards and walked out of the throne room.
*************
His bedroom had a balcony that looked out over the ocean, the sun had sunken and the dark blue sky with the countless stars looked intimidating.
Eigil didn't find soles in them, no comfort, no grief. He hadn't tasted the flavors of the rich meal the Royal chef had prepared for him. Nor felt the warmth of the bathwater, or the softens of the sheets.
Everything seemed to consumed with one image. The woman with red hair and sea blue eyes.
She was the siren, who sung to him. Her voice echoed in his head, and there was nothing he could do to silence it.
He not even felt the need to it.
It also didn't help that his mother kept going on and on about finding a wife for him.
His father didn't help to deflect the situation, and his uncle wasn't much help either.
Then his mother said something about a ball, which pulled his attention away from the woman with red hair.
Not for long though, because all he could see was him dancing with her. But then the image shifted and the woman's hair changed color, black.
"A ball sounds like a good place to start, mother. At least to show those sharks that they can't get to us. During that we can honor the brave souls we last at sea."
His uncle nodded in agreement.
"That sounds like a plan, and please dear sister. Light up on the boy, he lost his friends. I can't blame him for not wanting to think of romance right this second."
That was the gist of the entire conversation.
Eigil closed his eyes and walked over to the baluster of the balcony. Only his gaze went over the dark waves, instead it went into the direction of the small cottage near the coast.
The cottage that currently housed two young women, one silent with black hair and another so full of live.
"I am going to see them in the morning,"
"Who is them?"
He quickly turned around, Uncle Krog was standing behind him. Leaning against the doorframe.
"Uhm... Shellgirl, she is the woman who found me on the beach. She brought me to her cottage."
His uncle pushed himself from the doorframe and walked over to him.
"I believe your mother told me something about her. She is a mute girl that was found, but naked. You all keep calling her Shellgirl, because she makes jewelry out of shells."
Eigil nodded, that was about right.
"But you where talking about them, so she is no longer living alone."
Eigil wiggled with his head. Not sure how he would answer that.
"Crystal, listen closely boy. I am not going to pretend everything is all rainbows and sunshine. The Siren that cast her spell over you, has still her nails in your soul. We can't kill her, because if we do, you will die as well. Only she can break this attachment, so please do everything in your power to make her do just that. Preferably before your mother throws you that ball."
Eigil wanted to ask how he knows all of this. He knew that pirates spent most of their time on sea. He also knew that both his mother and uncle were raised on a ship.
So their knowledge would be far greater then any other sailor.
But this sounded a bit to specific, only there was something in his uncle's stance that told him not to ask.
So he didn't, and his uncle said nothing more about it.
He just turned on his heels and walked away.

I really liked how the tension lingers around Marella being the only survivor and especially that eerie detail about the purple one still haunting her dreams it gives the whole story a chilling, almost hypnotic edge. Do you plan to reveal more about who or what that purple figure actually is, or keep it mysterious for a while longer?
I believe you are confusing this book with my other novel Siren. Which is currently set private, because it has being published. Thank you for your comment though.
I really loved how you showed Cunningham hesitating before making that first protective choice it made his shift from detached observer to someone who cares feel so real and earned. Do you see his protectiveness as something that started with curiosity about Cosmocos, or was there a specific moment where it quietly turned into genuine emotional attachment? Btw, if it's okay with you can we connect somewhere else? I honestly wasn't expecting a reply, this means alot
