Personal Transmitter Signal Detector Radio

Tool

Uncommon

Properties

Transmitter/Receiver
Primary Effect

This item is capable of both receiving and transmitting audio signals up to 1200km away.
If a 'Booster' (e.g a Radio Tower, Transmitter, etc) is connected to it, the distance of the transmission is increased by a further 1200km.
Signal Stones can also be placed within to make communication compatible with Signal Stone based technology, and make them backwards compatible with Sending Stones. A Small dial can be used to swap between Signal Stone based Transmissions & Radio based Transmissions.

Signal Detection
Secondary Effect

Due to what was initially an error in manufacturing Personal Transmitter Radios, the Signal Detection aspect was discovered in early models when balancing the switch that alternated between the transmittor/reciever and PDC functions. Balancing the switch like this would cause the PDC counter & clicker to react to Radio Signals in place of Potential. This feature was quickly adopted due to it's ability to locate the area of various signals.
When used, the 'warping' sound will grow higher pitched when pointed in the direction of a signal and louder, the closer to the signal one is.
The range of this feature is 1200km.

Potalurgical Density Counter
Tertiary Effect

This function is capable of reading the density of Ambient Potential near the user.
The more rapid and loud the 'clicking' sound this function emits, the more dense the potential.
A Gauge on the side can be read to see the 'Counts' of Potential in an area it is pointed at.
Of note: although the gauge is marked as how safe an area may be, this function only detects the presence of Potential, not the energy of it; meaning that it is unable to calculate dosage. It is recommended to use more advanced equipment to judge dosage & safety levels.
The Gauge measures as (Left to right): OFF, SAFE, BARELY SAFE, UNSAFE, DANGEROUS, DEADLY, ALTERING, UNREADABLE.

Description

A Small Brown, boxy device of Stitches make.
The Personal Transmitter Signal Detector Radio, contains a receiver and speaker; to allow for the user to communicate with others who possess the same kind of device. The black antenae of the device is multi-functional, capable of receiving & transmitting signals. The smaller silver antennae is capable of detecting and reading Potential Density; emitting a rapid 'clicking' sound that gets faster the higher the density, readings are also displayed via an in-built Gauge on the side of the device.
The rear of the device can be opened up to exchange Batteries, or insert tuned Signal Stones.

Created before The Great Continental War, Radio technology has existed on The Chaos plane for nigh on 3 Decades. Though it has greatly evolved from the original building sized contraptions, it is still limited in some capacities.
Initially the technology was tightly restricted by the Stitches of days prior, and generally viewed as as both unwieldly and unreliable by The Powers That Were. After the war however, it has seen widespread use in conjunction with Signal Stones; which have been integrated into their hardware.
The Standard Stitches Denomination (S.S.D) 'Rom' Model, is the most widespread model of Personal Transmitter Signal Detector Radio; being capable of being found nigh anywhere that Stitches can be.
Manufactured by 'Syncope Symphony Records', their premiere hand held models utilise a rechargeable-battery based elektric system; sold with a crank operated recharging station, to allow for easy charging in any location. Additional batteries sold separately.
