Relic Weapon (Martial, Heavy, Two-Handed), Crownspine Peaks
The Skybreaker Greataxe is hewn from storm-forged steel mined high in the Crownspine’s frozen ridges, where thunder strikes bare stone and leaves veins of lightning-scarred ore behind. Its crescent blade is broad and severe, etched with sharp, angular runes that resemble mountain peaks split by jagged bolts.
The edge carries a faint silvery-blue sheen, as though frost and lightning have fused along its length. The haft is wrapped in pale yeti-hide cord, reinforced with iron rings that hum softly when storms gather overhead.
When lifted, the axe feels steady and grounded — but when swung, it carries a sudden, explosive momentum, like an avalanche breaking free.
The air around it smells faintly of ozone and cold wind.
Appearance by Relic State
Dormant
The blade reflects light like polished ice. In high altitudes or cold climates, frost gathers along its edge without dulling it. When it strikes stone, the impact rings sharply, like steel against frozen rock.
Awakened
Fine cracks of pale lightning trace briefly across the blade during powerful swings. A faint rumble echoes through the haft at the moment of impact. In mountainous terrain, gusts of wind seem to favor the wielder’s stance, steadying their footing.
The runes glow dim blue when thunder rolls nearby.
Exalted
The axe becomes a conduit of peak-born fury. Lightning arcs faintly along the blade’s curve before a decisive strike. The sound of its impact resembles splitting granite or distant thunderclaps. Snow and loose gravel shift outward from the wielder’s feet when they plant themselves for a heavy blow.
For a fleeting instant after cleaving a powerful foe, a ghostly silhouette of towering mountains appears behind the wielder, crowned in stormclouds.
Sensory Details
Feels cold to the touch, even in warm climates
Vibrates faintly before a thunderstorm
Leaves shallow fractures in stone after heavy blows
Emits a low, windlike hum when held at high elevation
Lore
The warriors of the Crownspine Peaks believe that the mountains are not silent — they speak through storm and stone. The Skybreaker Greataxe was forged to embody that voice: unyielding, immense, and capable of sundering even the strongest foe.
Legends claim it was first wielded by a titanborn chieftain who split a thunder-wreathed wyvern from sky to cliffside with a single strike. Since then, the axe has been passed down only to those who prove themselves atop the highest ridges, where air is thin and resolve must be thicker.
To wield Skybreaker is to stand like a mountain — and strike like the storm that crowns it.
